The History of the Children's Business Fair

In 2007 Jeff and Laura Sandefer wanted to spark a sense of wonder and entrepreneurship in their children.

With the help of a few other families, they created the first Acton Children's Business Fair in Austin, Texas. The Sandefer's enjoyed their first Children's Business Fair so much, they knew they had to share it.

The Acton Children’s Business Fair is a program offered to entrepreneurial families by the growing network of Acton Academy schools and the Acton MBA program.

TURTLE LAKE'S STORY

Three years ago, Jennifer Raddatz of JLR Portrait Studio in Turtle Lake, continued to see advertisements for Acton Children's Business Fairs on Facebook.

Curious, she clicked on the information, read all about the opportunity and decided to apply. With the help of her two children, Morgan and Daniel, they created and recorded a video application and applied to Acton to sponsor Turtle Lake's first Children's Business Fair.

While booth fees and few local sponsors help with costs of the fair, Jennifer, continues to provide organizational support and many of the unseen costs associated with having this fair for youth each year.

Since 2019, the number of Acton Children's Business Fairs in Wisconsin has been 1 or 2. In Minnesota, there are only 1 or 2 Acton fairs held as well.

Acton Academy supplies many of the organizational ideas to get the fair started and the rest is up to passionate & dedicated volunteers such as Jennifer to carry out the planning.
